Cheez-It
Cheez-It
On May 23, 1921 in Ohio, Green & Green Co. trademarked a new tasty snack that we know as the, Cheez-It. In 1921 it was a cracker marketed as a 'baked rarebit.' Rarebit, a melted cheddar beer sauce over toast was a popular meal in the 20's and one of my personal favorites growing up! The Cheez-It offered Americans the same flavor, only baked into a cracker with a longer shelf life. Cheez-It's have survived through post-war recessions, the Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression. The Cheez-It companies has changed hands. Marketing and packaging have changed over the years too, but the cracker has stayed true to it's original design and flavor from 1921. The little square orange cracker with a hole in the center is an instantly recognizable snack that has been irresistible for many generations.
